In one way of thinking it’s more than free, but our customers are satisfied to call it by it’s properly descriptive name: Totally Free Checking.

First Effingham Bank, a division of First Chatham Bank, is participating in the FDIC's Transaction Account Guarantee Program. Under that program, through December 31, 2009, all non-interest bearing transaction accounts are fully guaranteed by the FDIC for the entire amount in the account. Coverage under the Transaction Guarantee Program is in addition to and separate from the coverage available under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules.

****Effective January 1, 2010, First Chatham Bank and its subsidiaries WILL NO LONGER PARTICIPATE in this program. Funds held in non-interest bearing transaction accounts will no longer be guaranteed in full but will be insured up to $250,000 under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules.
